Our First Virtual Presentation
With the foreign life of remote learning taking over our first college semester, it can seem difficult to communicate with your classmates and have any kind of work done. However, every individual group from our speech class exceeded any expectation, especially online. Working in groups can become a daunting task because certain people end up doing more work and carrying the weight of other group members like it would happen in high school. Now, I can't speak for each group, but in my group (group 2) the work was split evenly and everyone put in maximum effort. We helped each other throughout the struggles we had when putting together the presentation which was refreshing in an online setting where everyone keeps to themselves behind the screen. Presenting is the big monster everyone is absolutely terrified, at least I am, but this class as a whole was respectful as everyone spoke and explained their topics. Although presenting online seems sort of awkward because you're just talking to forty black screens of students who probably just want to go back to sleep, but this class, as well as our teacher, made it feel like the complete opposite. We felt heard and like our message reached the ears of everyone who was present.
Group 1 spoke about intercultural communication and delve into the world of culture. From ones cultural identity to the ways cultures differ from one another, group 1 made great points and made the chapter extremely understandable. Living in a world where different cultures are being mistreated for simply being them, this presentation was important for everyone to pay close attention to. With this group being the first to put themselves out in the world of online presenting, they did great. They helped each other and each slide interconnected with one another. They provided lots of pictures and videos to help the class remain engaged which was useful, especially at 9 o'clock in the morning.
My group was the second one and we spoke about communication within groups. For example, the way groups should communicate in a healthy manner, their development and dealing with conflict. Since we were working in groups and figuring out how to communicate under these circumstances, I found it fitting that communication was our focus. Our slides highlighted the significance of talking and working with our group members and making sure everyones ideas are heard and supported, even during disagreements. Inserting videos and pictures was encouraged and we tried our best to maintain our audience awake enough for them to retain the information we provided. With it being the first ever presentation online and for the semester, it was nerve racking and we obviously have things to work on but we did great. Our effort was definitely there which is more than I can say for group projects I have been apart of in the past.
Group 3 was the final group who presented and even though they didn't get to present all the same day, they still showed out. They presented about leadership, solving problems and more. They did a great job and included videos and pictures to keep their topic well understand and clear. They illustrated the way that being prepared and working together to solve issues is vital when working in a group. Their topic tied in perfectly with the prior groups topics since they all go hand in hand. Group 3 helped each other and their effort to reach the classes attention was clear.
Each group did a great job despite any complications, struggle, or technical difficulties that were presented to them. Everyone poured their time and effort into each slide and presentation and I'm excited to work with the class on our upcoming projects.
