Speech Group 2 Blog
The class began just like any other day but this time the professor had different plans for us. She explained how we were gonna be divided into groups and we were going to do the first presentation of the course. Personally, I was very anxious about the whole idea of presenting in front of everyone but I've got to admit doing it remotely made me more comfortable and confident. Once the groups were assigned, the leader created group chats so we could communicate on how we were going to do it and how we were going to present it. When everything was done it was presentation time and thankfully we were not the first to go.
Group one was the first to go and they did an amazing job. I didn't just learn about Intercultural communication but also about values, how cultures differ, individualism, collectivism, chronemics, and even incompatible communication. The way group 1 taught me all of these new concepts was definitely different than what I'm used to but it was something new that I really liked. They never failed to explain the concepts, make the necessary statements, and present it in a way that was understandable for everyone. Their presentation covered all of the fundamentals of the chapter and as a visual learner, I must admit that I loved the videos explaining the concepts. The best part about their presentation was not just learning about new things but also getting an idea of how I was going to present mine because we were next.
It was time for my group to present and we did an amazing job too. We had the perfect mix between written concepts, presenting our slides, and educational videos. We never failed to explain our concepts of the chapter and each slide would contain the most important details about the topic without overwhelming the students with a lot of information. Many of us were nervous but when it was time to present we would forget about everything else and just focus on transmitting our chapter in the best way we could. When it was my time, I was very nervous but I didn't let that stop me from presenting and I tried going at a steady pace where everyone would understand what I was trying to teach. Overall I think we did great for our first presentation and although we could've done it better, I'm very proud of how it turned out.
The last group’s presentation was about group leadership and problem-solving. I honestly think that this was one of the most important chapters we could learn about, especially implementing these new techniques on future presentations. I learned about leadership, the importance of guidelines, identifying problems, and creating solutions. The group explained the concepts really well and the videos on putting these new techniques in action were very informative. Working in groups sometimes could be difficult but knowing all of these new concepts definitely makes it easier. Overall the presentations were great, educational, easy to understand, and very useful.
